Classical Methods in Practice
Three Reproducible Worked Examples
The value of an assessment depends on its reasoning and its limits. These three worked examples retain the path from a defined question to chart output, alternative conditions and a conditional recommendation.
All inputs are synthetic. These are not client cases, outcome claims or validation of predictive accuracy. Dates are fixed teaching timestamps in September 2026, not current booking advice. A matching recalculation demonstrates reproducibility of selected software output, not predictive validity.
01
One minute apart: which birth chart can be read?
Question and complete conditions
A fictional male was born on 8 August 1988, Gregorian calendar. Compare 10:59 with 11:00, using the site’s civil Beijing-time hour boundaries, without a birthplace-based apparent solar-time correction. The observation time is fixed at 10:00 on 27 September 2026. The complete input retains all switches. This example compares only the twelve natal palaces, not annual forecasts.

Chart evidence and interpretation
At 10:59, the Life Palace is at Yin, the Body Palace at Zi, with Water Second Bureau; Ziwei and Tianfu occupy the Life Palace. At 11:00, the Life and Body Palaces are both at Chou, with Metal Fourth Bureau. These are outputs of the implemented chart convention. A Life Palace can frame a traditional reading of personal circumstances; it cannot establish someone’s occupation, income or personality.
Counterchecks and hidden assumptions
Minute-level accuracy is the decisive assumption. A family recollection of “around eleven” does not justify selecting whichever chart feels more flattering or familiar. Calendar, time zone and hour-boundary conventions must agree first. This comparison establishes input sensitivity, not the truth of either life narrative.
Recommendation, review and longer-term effects
With a reliable time record, proceed under an explicitly stated convention. If uncertainty crosses 11:00, keep both charts and the differences; do not issue one definitive life conclusion. Review the source of the time, its uncertainty and the convention used. Repeatedly using an unconfirmed chart for career or relationship decisions risks turning a provisional reading into a permanent label.
02
A different hour, but have the preparations changed?
Question and complete conditions
A fictional internal meeting is proposed for 30 September 2026, before a new office opens. Assume the room is available, the materials list is unchecked and attendance is unconfirmed. No contracts, clients or payments are involved. The site’s time-based rotating-board, futou-chaibu convention is used with an Asia/Shanghai teaching location. Compare 10:00 and 11:00 on 27 September; the question and active role are unchanged.

Chart evidence and interpretation
Both charts are Yin Dun, fourth configuration, in the lower cycle of the Autumn Equinox term. At 10:00, the day stem is in Zhen 3; the hour stem and duty door share Gen 8 with Du Men. At 11:00, the day stem moves to Kun 2, the hour stem to Qian 6 and the duty door to Dui 7. Reading Du Men as an invitation to check information is interpretive. The unchecked materials are a stated assumption, not a fact discovered by the chart.
Counterchecks and hidden assumptions
The classical configuration changes with time; the materials and attendance do not become confirmed as a result. Repeated casting until a preferred answer appears cannot establish that preparations improved. An interpretive prompt and a documented missing item are distinct kinds of evidence, not independent confirmation of each other.
Recommendation, review and longer-term effects
List missing materials and attendance confirmations, assign responsibility and verify them before sending the final invitation. If the practical requirements are met, proceed according to those facts; a door name alone is not a reason to cancel. Review confirmation times, outstanding items and whether the invitation was sent. No actual meeting outcome or improved success rate is claimed.
03
Why does allowing weekends produce no extra date?
Question and complete conditions
A fictional internal meeting needs 60 continuous minutes between 14:00 and 17:00. Search 14 days from 28 September 2026, with a hard deadline of 7 October. Compare Monday–Friday only with all weekdays. No participants’ birth years are supplied. “Now” is fixed at 10:00 Beijing time on 27 September. The site’s published day-officer, value-deity and year-clash rules apply. Weekday filtering is not a public-holiday or booking calendar.

Chart evidence and interpretation
The requested end date, 11 October, is clipped to 7 October: ten dates are checked. Both settings retain only 30 September: Ding-Wei, Open day officer, Tian De, with a 15:00–17:00 candidate window that can fit a one-hour meeting. All nine rejected dates retain their reasons. With no birth years, personal clash screening has not been completed. The traditional ranking score is not a probability of success.
Counterchecks and hidden assumptions
Removing a weekday preference removes only that restriction. On 3 and 4 October, other traditional filters still exclude the dates. More importantly, the system has no venue availability, attendance confirmations or holiday arrangements. A date passing these filters is not a confirmed feasible booking.
Recommendation, review and longer-term effects
Verify a continuous hour within 15:00–17:00 on 30 September and confirm essential participants. If the practical conditions fail, keep the deadline and renegotiate the time window or search range. Do not miss a real deadline to pursue a traditional preference. Review actual availability, attendance and completion by the deadline, not whether the outcome retrospectively appears to validate a calendar rule.
What these examples let you assess
They show how inputs enter a judgement, how uncertainty is retained and how advice becomes a checkable action. A consultation still needs your actual question and verified information. Producing a chart is not the same as analysing a problem.
